Alaska Air Show Association founder passes away

 Gori_Floyd Eagle River resident, Floyd Edward Gori, 85, passed away November 21, 2013 at Providence Extended Care Facility in Anchorage, AK. He was born on May 24, 1928 in Sparks, Nevada at home. Floyd became a resident of Alaska in the year 1982.

A service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 11 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 16300 Domain Lane, Eagle River, AK. A visitation will take place prior to the service at 10 a.m. Father Tom Brundage and Deacon Jim Lee will be officiating the service. A burial will then take place in Arlington Cemetery at a later date.

He graduated from Sparks High School, the University of Nevada Reno, and received a Master’s Degree at Creighton University. Floyd served in the US Air Force for 30 years. He took part in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Cold War. Among the awards he received were National Defense Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, and many others. After retirement he went into several business operations, including Alaska North Fuel and working for Mayor Tom Fink. Floyd was affiliated with the Knights of Columbus; Anchorage Navy League, where he was a past President; Air Force Association, also past President of the Monaghan Chapter; the fleet reserve; Military Officers Association; VFW; and Anchorage Armed Service YMCA, where he was a past Board Member. He also was the Armed Service YMCA Volunteer of the Year.

Floyd and his wife, Angie, were the founders of the Alaska Air Show Association. He had an exceptional interest in planes and anything to do with World War II history. Floyd also enjoyed collecting coins and ivory carvings.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Angie M. Gori of Eagle River, AK; son, John Gori of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Janet Garcia (Reinaldo) of Gardnerville, NV; nieces, Pamela Odegaard (Richard) of Sparks, NV and Halley Brooks of West Allis, WI; nephew, Robert Gori (Leann) of Sparks, NV; grand-daughters, Alessandra Garcia of Reno, NV and Juliana Garcia of Gardnerville, NV; brother-in-law, Bob Murdock of Cuenca, Equador; and sisters-in-law, Linda Jones of Cour D’Alene, ID and Jean Brooks (Tom) of West Allis, WI.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Maria Domenica Gori; brother and sister-in-law, J. Paul and Dorothy Gori; and his 1st wife, Bonny Molignoni Gori.
